Robert N. Dekin, age 82 of 16046 MorrisTract Rd, Chaumont, passed away at his home, Thursday, January 2nd.
Robert was born December 20, 1937 in Carthage, NY, the son of Eliza M. Dekin. He attended school in Carthage. Robert served with the 127th Ordinance Company of Carthage from 1955 to 1959 and retired from the New York Air Brake where he was a Supervisor Machinist.
He married JoAnne M. Bush, on April 19, 1978 in Chaumont. A previous marraige had ended in divorce. The couple was self employed. They were very active with the Makin' Tracks 4-H Group, training horses and anyone to ride in addition to volunteering with staff and participants of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Credo Community Center- the Farm in Evans Mills. He also loved going camping and fishing in the Adirondacks and "The Camp" in Chippewa Bay as well as hunting in the Southern Tier, welcoming family and friends to join in their love for God and the outdoors.
Bob had a fondness for bumping into his old classmate, Wordie Kilbourn from Black River to catch up on old times but his greatest love was making memories with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are his daughters Amie (Pete) Orvis of Chaumont and their children Elijah, Grace and Isaac; Rhonda McVey and Laurie Dekin of Newton, Mass., Robin (David) Abbass of Seal Beach, CA and their children Elisha (Matt) Swartz of Raleigh, NC, Tyler (Ashley) Abbass of Raleigh, NC, and Jordan Abbass of Seal Beach, CA; Carrie (Russell) Lohr of Oklahoma City, OK and her children Ashley Kalk of Watertown and Alexander Kalk of Texas; and his son Michael Dekin of Watertown and his children Matthew of Florida, Jessica Dekin of Dexter and Mariah Dekin of Watertown. He is survived by a sister, Shirley Arnold of Shawnee, KS; an aunt, Julia of Carthage, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, JoAnne; a sister, Mary Persons, his mother, aunts, and uncles.
A riverside memorial celebration of life will be held at Chippewa Bay July 11, with Pastor James Hayes officiating.
