William H. Allen, 62 of Weaver Road, Chaumont passed away Wednesday afternoon at his home surrounded by his family.
Bill was born February 27, 1956 in Oneida, NY the son of Howard W. and Ruth E. Mooney Allen. He attended Lyme Central School. He served in the US Army from 1974 until 1977 with 101st Airborne Division.
He married Carol A. Campbell on March 21, 1978 in Clarksville, Tennessee. He worked for the Department of Defense for 39 yearsat Fort Drum as a civilian employee. He was an active union member and served as a union official for many years.
He was a member of Smith-Savage Post American Legion in Dexter. An avid hunter and fisherman,he also enjoyed golf and NASCAR. His free time was spent with his family and numerous friends. If you were friends with Bill, you were family. Never one to shy away from hard work, he was always involved in improvement projects, and helping others.
He is survived by his wife Carol and three children: Elizabeth Beaulieu of Louisville, KY, Jennifer L. (Edward) Emerling of Hagerstown, Maryland and Christopher S. (Stephanie) Allen of Watertown. Grandchildren include: Noah, Olivia, Lina, Aiden and Kieran. Brothers and sisters include: Nancy (Rodjer) Bourn of Kernersville, NC, John Allen of Charleston, SC, Timothy (Trudy) of Kernersville, NC, Gary (Chum) Allen of Yelm, Washington, Judy (Al) Hill of Mashpee, Mass., Frances (Loren) Bush of Calcium and Marion (Jack) Hoffman of Berlin, NH. There are also several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion in Dexter from 1-4 PM on September 23rd. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. Online condolences may be made to dexterfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
