Theta F. Corliss- Dexter

It is with great sadness the family of Theta F. Corliss announces she has completed time here on Earth and joined our Heavenly Father on May 7, 2018 at her home in Dexter, NY.

Theta was born on August 25, 1938 in Rutland, NY to Donald M. Rich and Hazel E. Rich.  She attended high school and graduated from Saratoga Springs, NY in 1956.  She then traveled and worked in NYC for awhile after graduation.  She met Everett W. Corliss and they married on May 22, 1960 in Saratoga Springs.  They lived with their four daughters in Clinton, Utica, Little Falls and Richville NY before settling in Dexter for rest of her life.

While raising her children, she worked at various jobs including The Adirondack Trust Co., Saratoga Springs, NY, The Globe, Watertown, NY, General Brown Central High School Cafeteria, Brownville, NY, and as Village Clerk in Dexter, NY before retiring.

As a youth she was a Nanny to the Charlie Dake Family and also volunteered as a Candy Striper for a time.  Theta loved being involved in the community groups and volunteered her time whenever possible.  She was the treasurer in the Dexter Fire Dept. Women’s Auxiliary, member of the Dexter Citizen’s Committee, member of the Dexter Presbyterian Church and Dexter Methodist Church, member of the Dexter Library Board, and President of the Dexter Historical Society.  Theta was honored the award of Citizen of the Year in 1996.  Theta loved collecting antiques, gardening, genealogy, classical music, Women’s Birthday Club gatherings and most of all spending time with her family.

Theta is survived by her daughters Renee & Rich Semeraro, Oakville, CT., Karen Velazquez, Dexter, NY, Carol & Craig Greene, Dexter, NY, and Lori Rieves, Dexter, NY.  9 grandchildren, Travis Ryan, Joseph Taylor, Tarah Pawloski, Krista Taylor, Robert Semeraro, Kelli Velazquez, Shelby Greene, Kerstain Rieves and Dominic Semeraro.  She was blessed with one great grandchild, Qiunn Taylor.  One brother and sister-in-law Stephen and Caye Rich, Watertown,
NY.  Many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.  Along with her family she leaves behind many wonderful friends and her precious kitty Gracie who she will watch over from above.

Theta was predeceased by her parents Don and Hazel Rich, her son-in-law Mark Velazquez, her brother-in-law Earl Corliss, her father and mother-in-law William and Jennie Corliss, Uncles Aunts and Cousins.
