Obituary of Wendell Flath Sr.

Wendell W. Flath Sr. age 78 of Mullin Road, Dexter, passed away Friday afternoon at Summit Village, Watertown.

Wendell was born October 23, 1939 in Watertown the son of Clarence and Mildred Allen Flath.

He graduated from Dexter High School in 1957 and entered the Army right after graduation; serving at Ft. Bliss, Texas until discharged.

Wendell married Barbara Bishop on July 18, 1958 at the Stone Presbyterian Church in Watertown.  The couple lived in Dexter until moving to the Mullin Road in 2004.

Wendell worked at Tip Top Bakery, Kodak for 3 years and operated a Mobil Station in Dexter from 1971-1978.  He drove school bus for General Brown Central School until retiring in 2002.

Wendell was a member of Smith- Savage Post American Legion, Dexter Masonic Lodge #1072 and the Watertown Elks Club #496.

He enjoyed stockcar racing and NASCAR.

He is survived by 2 sons: Wendell “Wayne” (Becky) Flath Jr. of Dexter and Steven Michael Flath of LaFargeville and daughter-in-laws Diane Flath and JoAnne Flath.  He has seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Barbara on Feb. 28, 2017 and his son Richard Flath on October 2, 2009 and a grandson Richard Flath.

Funeral services will be Saturday March 24th at 11:00 am at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.  Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  Burial will be in the spring at Dexter Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Dexter Masonic Lodge  PO Box 531 Dexter, NY 13634.  Online condolences may be made to dexterfuneralhome.com.
