Obituary of Milton McAdam
Milton Bruce McAdam, age 85, of Watertown, New York, went to be with the Lord on February 2 at the Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown. He is remembered as a loving family man, a dedicated employee, and a sportsman and gentleman to all.
Mr. McAdam was born October 31, 1932 on Pillar Point, Town of Brownville, New York. His parents, James Wesley and Catherine Marie (nee Hammond) McAdam, since deceased, were then recent immigrants from Canada. Mr. McAdam is survived by his wife, Doris June (Yelle) McAdam. They were married September 21, 1952 at the Methodist Church in the Village of Brownville, New York.
Mr. McAdam attended schools in and around Lyme, Clayton and Brownville. His working career started as a farmhand . He worked at the Jefferson County Sanitarium and at Goodheart's Shell across from the old county jail. He spent fifteen years at the Brownville Paper Company, followed by eight years as building engineer at the Holiday Inn in Watertown. Finally, he worked fifteen years an engineer at the Watertown Housing Authority before retiring in 1996. During retirement, Bruce and Doris were “snow birds” traveling between homes in Florida and Watertown visiting family and friends.
Active in the community, Mr. McAdam served on the Brownville Youth Commission and as a Sunday school teacher at the Methodist Church in Brownville. He was a scout leader and served as a Republican Party County Committee member. For twenty years, he was dedicated to officiating football, basketball and lacrosse from youth to college to Red & Black football. He loved sports and, as a young man, participated in Watertown area men's leagues in baseball, softball and basketball. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants and the Syracuse Orange.
His children include daughters Deborah Marie Smith Barnes (spouse Thomas) of Fayetteville, Tennessee, and ElizaBeth Marie Bauer (Myrle) of Clayton, New York; and sons Milton Bruce Jr. (Sandy Kusumoto) of Olney, Maryland; Dr. Frederick Bradley (Billie Gamble) of East Aurora, New York; and Roy Arthur (Kathy Siver) of Dexter, New York.
His surviving siblings include Anne Louise Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina; Philip Watson (Jean Maynard) of Venice, Florida; James Wesley Jr, (Verna Hance) of Oswego, New York; Colin Hammond (Rita Ebert) of Faribault, Minnesota; and Lawrence Arthur (Loretta Morris) of Sanford, Florida. Mr. McAdam is predeceased by his older brother Ronald Colin (1937) and older sister Gloria
Mr. McAdam was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. One grandchild, Jonathan Tyler McAdam, son of Roy and Kathy McAdam, was killed in a car accident in 2001.
Calling hours will be held at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, New York, on Tuesday, February 6th, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Memorial services will be held at the Johnson Funeral Home immediately after with Pastor David Sheppard officiating.
