David L Fisk

David L. Fisk, 94, of Dexter, New York, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

He was born on August 3, 1929, in Watertown, New York, to Stannage and Beatrice (Livingston)Fisk. David graduated from Watertown High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning several commendations including the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Army Occupation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1952.

David married Marie Earl of Watertown on March 6, 1951, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Marie, a bookkeeper, retired from Boces and preceded him in death in 2017. 

David began his career at the Department of Transportation in Watertown at the age of 16, later returning there after his military service and retiring as a maintenance supervisor in 1986. A pillar of the Dexter community, David was deeply involved in various organizations, including serving as past commander of the Dexter American Legion, a member of the Watertown VFW, and various committees and boards, including those for the Frontier Housing Authority, Dexter Library, and Dexter Historical Society. He and his wife were honored as Dexter Citizens of the Year in 2005. In his leisure time, David loved spending time with family at the cottage at Duck Harbor in Chaumont, where he also enjoyed going for boat rides on Lake Ontario. 

He is survived by his five children, Karen Fisk of Watertown, New York; Kathleen Robie of Chaumont, New York, Keitha and Timothy Dupee of Brownville, New York, William and Shelly Fisk of Watertown, New York, and David Fisk of Contoocook, New Hampshire. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.  

David was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Marie, a sister Suzanne Fisk, and a granddaughter Erika Dupee Hunt. 

Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.  A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 17th at Dexter Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, the Dexter Library, or the Dexter Last Station Project , care of the Dexter Volunteer Fire Department. 

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers, Ali, Darlene, Lou, April, Teninke, Destiny, Elaine and Makayla who provided  exceptional care  for their father.  Your kindness and dedication brought comfort to our father and eased our hearts during a challenging time.  We will be forever grateful for the love and support you shared with our family. And to dad's neighbor's Mike and Suzie we would like to thank you for your generosity, watchful eye and your willingness to lend a helping hand over the years.  Your kindness brought comfort to our father as well as to our family knowing he had wonderful neighbors and friends.
