Ethel "Tommy" Ryder, age 96 of NYS Rte 12E Chaumont passed away August 4th, 2017 at the Pontiac Care Facility in Oswego, NY; where she has resided since January.
Tommy was born December 3rd, 1920 in Chaumont, NY the daughter of Edward and Tillie Bergen Thompson. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1939 and the Watertown School of Business. She worked at Burdick Coal Co. in Watertown as a Bookkeeper and entered the Womens Army Corp in 1943 serving in England and France in the Military Post Office until being discharged as a Technical Sgt. in 1945.
She married Malcolm Ryder on April 6, 1947 in Chaumont. He passed away in 1998.
After her time in the WAC's she worked at Empsall's Dept. Store and Westons' Shopping Center.
She is a member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Chaumont and former member of Easter Stars.
Surviving are two sons: Darren Ryder of Chaumont, Bruce Ryder of Lowville, 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, a sister Lois Wilder and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter April Talbot in 1994 and her daughter Rae Tonnison.
A memorial service will be held Saturday August 12th at 1:00 PM at the 1sr Presbyterian Church in Chaumont.
